PETALING JAYA, Feb 20 (Bernama) -- The Kesatria
1Malaysia Programme introduced in 2012, has generated 85 international
convention leads and set to deliver an estimated economic impact of RM1.6
bilion and attract more than 150,000 delegates to the country.
Tourism and Culture Ministry's secretary-general Tan Sri Dr Ong Hong Peng said
the contribution of Kesatria, a programme under the Malaysia Convention &
Exhibition Bureau(MyCEB), was much appreciated and looked forward by the
nation.
"It is envisaged that conventions will help raise Malaysia's standing on a
global scale and contribute to our business tourism target of RM3.9 bilion in
gross national income in 2020," he said in his speech at the 'Kesatria
Assembly 005' Gala Evening here, Saturday.
Among the highlights of the event was the introduction of five newly appointed
Kesatrias for 2016 as well as 12 upcoming world conferences secured for 2016
and right up to 2020.
The Kesatria 1Malaysia Programme is designed to recognise the efforts and
contributions of industry leaders and their respective institutions that choose
to bid for and host major international conventions and business events.
Ong said these conventions would complement the efforts of the Ministry in
achieving 30.5 billion in tourist arrivals and RM103 billion in tourist
receipts for this year.
Meanwhile, MyCEB was established in 2009 by the Ministry to further strenghthen
Malaysia's business tourism brand and position for the international business
events market.
