DARE-19 PHASE III SHOWS TREATMENT’S WELL-ESTABLISHED SAFETY PROFILE CONSISTENT IN COVID-19 PATIENTS

KUALA LUMPUR, July 30 (Bernama) -- The findings of DARE-19, a double-blind, placebo-controlled Phase III trial examining Dapagliflozin in patients with cardiometabolic risk factors hospitalised with COVID-19, have been published in The Lancet Diabetes & Endocrinology.

The study was a collaboration of George Clinical, a global scientifically-backed clinical research organisation and Saint Luke’s Mid America Heart Institute and was funded by AstraZeneca, according to a statement.

“In a month, we broke down barriers to go from concept to our first patient in the trial, and the team displayed extraordinary commitment needed to successfully manage this research during this pandemic personally and professionally,” said George Clinical Chief Business Officer, Sean Hart.

Prior to the study, it was established that patients hospitalised with COVID-19 with cardiometabolic risk factors had an elevated risk of organ failure and death.

DARE-19 was the first large, randomised controlled study of hospitalised patients with COVID-19 to evaluate the safety and efficacy of SGLT2 inhibitors.

Detailed results from the primary analysis of the DARE-19 Phase III trial assessing the potential of Farxiga (dapagliflozin), a sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitor, to treat patients hospitalised with COVID-19 who are at risk of developing serious complications, showed the trial did not achieve statistical significance for the two primary endpoints.

However, there were numerically fewer events of death or new or worsened organ dysfunction in the Farxiga group compared with placebo.

The primary endpoint of prevention was defined as new or worsened respiratory, cardiovascular or kidney organ dysfunction during hospitalisation or death from any cause during the 30-day treatment period.

Numerically fewer events were observed in the Farxiga group across all components of this composite endpoint. Cardiac, renal and metabolic comorbidities have been associated with poor outcomes and death in patients hospitalised with COVID-19.

The second primary endpoint of recovery, which assessed change in clinical status (improvement or deterioration) compared to baseline, showed no overall difference between the treatment groups.

BLACK & VEATCH LEADS POINT-OF-USE HYDROGEN PRODUCTION FOR VEHICLE FUEL STUDY

KUALA LUMPUR, July 29 (Bernama) -- Black & Veatch has been commissioned by Artificial Intelligence business Empati, to deliver a study into the feasibility of using distributed production of green hydrogen to fuel vehicle fleets.

According to a statement, Black & Veatch will provide an economic, logistical and technical assessment of onsite, on-demand hydrogen production’s potential as a fuel for fleet operators seeking to decarbonise.

“We will establish the technical requirements and the economic model for distributed renewable generation to power small-scale on-site hydrogen production,” said Advanced Power Fuels Engineer, Black & Veatch, Jonathan Cristiani.

“Because commercial viability requires a supply chain capable of supporting a network of distributed green hydrogen facilities, our study addresses the entire ‘hydrogen ecosystem,’ not just the technology.”

Empati Co-CEO Gopal Ramchurn said: “We see green hydrogen as a digital fuel that is a perfect fit for a decentralised set-up such as networks of filling stations or fleet depots. We look to deploy our technology globally, partnering with the most innovative companies across the hydrogen supply chain.”

Black & Veatch’s study will seek to confirm that small-scale distributed hydrogen production at the point of use offers a viable alternative in achieving competitive price points.

The study, undertaken by Black & Veatch’s Hydrogen Technology Group, will build upon the company’s experience in developing hydrogen vehicle fuel infrastructure and distributed hydrogen power assets, as well as project experience that establishes hydrogen as a viable piece of the future of decarbonisation.

The study will be carried out along with a collaborative project to integrate Empati’s AI platform with Black & Veatch’s Asset 360 platform.

LATEST CISCO APPDYNAMICS APP ATTENTION INDEX REVEALS BRANDS HAVE ONLY ONE SHOT TO WIN OVER CUSTOMERS

News Summary
  • 76 percent of consumers say their expectations of digital services have increased since the start of 2020.
  • 60 percent of consumers now blame the application and brand when they encounter a problem with a digital service, irrespective of the issue.
  • 57 percent of consumers claim brands have one shot to impress them and if their digital service does not perform, they won’t use them again.

SAN FRANCISCO, July 21 (Bernama-BUSINESS WIRE) -- Cisco AppDynamics today released the latest report in its App Attention Index research series, revealing consumer reliance on applications and digital services has soared since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. The global study, which examined the digital behaviors of more than 13,000 global consumers, also identified consumers now have a zero-tolerance policy for poor application experience and automatically place blame on the application and brand, no matter where a performance issue stems from.

Consumers blame the brand when the application experience fails

Since the start of 2020, consumers have experienced a sudden and total reliance on digital services, altering how they engage with brands, consume goods and services, and make purchasing decisions. In fact, the research shows that people are using 30 percent1 more applications today than they did before the pandemic.

The research highlights that because of their increasing reliance and use of digital services, 76 percent2 of consumers say their expectations of digital services have increased since the start of 2020. Alarmingly for brands, when expectations aren’t met, 60 percent3 of consumers will now automatically blame the application and the brand no matter where the issue actually lives. Whether it’s within the application itself - such as pages loading slowly, downtime, or security failures; or external factors like internet connectivity, slow payment gateways or technical issues with third party services - to the consumer there is no distinction and they will now place responsibility firmly on the brand.
  • 72 percent4 of people believe it’s the responsibility of the brand to ensure that the digital service or application works perfectly.
  • 92 percent5 say they expect digital services to have reliable, consistent performance.
Loyalty lies with brands that invest in application experience

Consumers have not only come to rely on applications and digital services to function in everyday life, but they also used them to facilitate social interactions in the absence of traditional ways of connecting in person. The research found that the majority of consumers (85%)6 say that digital services have become a critical part of daily life, with 84 percent7 stating those services helped them get through the pandemic in a positive way. Additionally, consumers are now loyal to brands based on how significantly they invested in digital services during the pandemic.
  • 72 percent8 say they feel grateful to the brands that invested in digital experiences during the pandemic so they could get access to the services that they love and rely on.
  • 67 percent9 say they feel more loyal to brands that went above and beyond with the quality of their digital service during the pandemic.
Brands have one shot to get the ‘total application experience’ right

61 percent10 of consumers now state their expectations for digital services have changed forever and they will no longer tolerate poor performance. The research goes on to find that 72 percent11 of consumers believe it’s the responsibility of the brand to ensure that digital services work perfectly, and more than half (57%)12 state that brands have one shot to deliver positive digital experiences before they switch to another provider.
  • 72 percent13 say they simply don’t care who is responsible for problems with digital services, they just want them fixed and to work.
  • 68 percent14 consider it disrespectful to users for brands to offer a poor digital experience in this day and age.
  • 57 percent15 believe most problems with digital services and applications are completely avoidable.

SWIFT NAVIGATION-KDDI PARTNERSHIP TO BUILD ON PRECISE POSITIONING GLOBAL EXPANSION

KUALA LUMPUR, July 21 (Bernama) -- Swift Navigation, a San Francisco-based tech firm redefining GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System) and precise positioning technology for autonomous vehicles, automotive, mobile and mass-market applications has announced a partnership with Tokyo-based KDDI Corporation.

KDDI is an international telecommunications company on the forefront of using technology innovations to provide a high-quality and high-reliability network that meets the communication needs of its global customers.

This partnership will be key in bringing Swift’s precise positioning technology to the Japan market and adds KDDI as a key partner in the global expansion of Skylark precise positioning service — currently available across the continental US and Europe in partnership with Deutsche Telekom.

“Swift Navigation is delighted to be partnering with KDDI to expand Skylark’s precise positioning in Japan and benefit customers around the globe,” said Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer at Swift Navigation, Timothy Harris.

Meanwhile, Executive Officer, Business Exploration & Development at KDDI CORPORATION, Hiromichi Matsuda said: “We believe that Swift's high-precision positioning solution further empowers our business capabilities in mobility space and contributes to the expansion of business coverage into smart vehicles.”

Traditionally, precision GNSS corrections were provided using real-time kinematics (RTK) techniques, requiring a high density of reference stations and with limited fault tolerance.

According to a statement, by partnering with Swift, KDDI is able to utilise Swift’s patented wide area corrections solution, a hybrid of precise point positioning (PPP) and RTK.

The solution delivers wide area corrections with a low density of reference stations, fast convergence, centimetre-level accuracy, all from a highly-reliable service delivered seamlessly via the cloud.

Accuracy that previously could benefit a few pieces of equipment on a jobsite — or in a field — is now accessible to millions of users across continents.

The accuracy of the Skylark precise positioning service enables lane-level positioning at fast convergence times to achieve required levels of safety, reliability, integrity and availability required by autonomous, mass-market and mobile applications.

TOKYO WINS, BEATS 'FUTURE WINNER' SINGAPORE - ASIAN CITIES UP 34 PLACES IN 500 INNOVATION CITIES - 14TH CITY RANKING

MELBOURNE, July 16 (Bernama) -- Tokyo topped the five hundred list of world's most innovative cities (https://www.innovation-cities.com/innovation-cities-index-2021-global-500/25718/) published for the 14th year by data analysts 2thinknow this week. Tokyo's win was attributed to strong urban technology application, digital capability, and social performance.

Singapore (5) stayed steady, rising two places globally from its five-year pre-Covid average. The analysts predicted that like Tokyo, Singapore had the digital and economic potential to one day "win the city rankings".

Home to MIT, United States city Boston placed second globally, to defeat previous winner New York. Next place was a rising Sydney, home to a booming start-up industry. Silicon Valley fell to twelfth, its lowest result in over a decade.

Seoul (7) rose seven places from the last year of results (2019). Dallas-Fort Worth (6) and Houston (8) entering the global top-ten this year due to strong economies. Shanghai (15) rose eighteen places ahead of a rising Miami (17) and cycling innovator Amsterdam (24). A surging Beijing (19) rose seven places.

Twenty of the top hundred cities were in the Asia region, displacing Europe's normal hold on the top hundred. Constant lockdowns had a "greater impact there damaging to mid-size enterprises", according to the analysts.

For the first time, more than half (54%) of top hundred cities were in the United States. This included often over-looked cities like Little Rock (82) and Omaha (86), in what was described as a 'surprise result' by the data analysts.

Across the full five hundred cities, Asian cities rose an average of 34 places for the first time. Ho Chi Minh City (234) rose 85 places.

The 162 indicators were weighted to address digital transformation, economic recovery, start-ups, technology, smart cities, science, engineering, creativity, mobility and other key civic areas. Data included latest Covid-19 city policies.

The analysts noted that the Innovation Cities Index was based on a shorter timeframe than usual. This was due to risks such as rapid inflation, ongoing fiscal stimulus, and systemic infringements on personal liberty by many governments.

INFORMATION

All indexes are published on http://www.innovation-cities.com/city-rankings. 162 indicators of data can be purchased. The publisher and creator of the city ranking is 2thinknow, data analysts established in Melbourne in 2006 from research started in Vienna in 2005.

POLYPLASTICS DEVELOPS TESTING METHOD IDENTIFYING GAS FORMATION DURING INJECTION MOLDING

KUALA LUMPUR, July 14 (Bernama) -- Polyplastics Co Ltd, a leading global supplier of engineering thermoplastics, has developed a testing method that identifies gas formation during the injection molding process and helps reduce mold deposits.

The company's Gas Investigation Method in Injection Molding (GIMIM) facilitates continuous molding and improves production efficiency, according to a statement.

During the injection molding process, harsh conditions (high temperature, high speed) and deterioration of plastic additives can release high volumes of decomposition gases.

Mold deposits, gas burns, and short shots caused by pyrolysis gas can lead to quality problems, including undesirable effects on the dimensions and appearance of products, resulting in a higher defect rate.

Polyplastics' proprietary method captures and evaluates the gases formed during molding and identifies the mechanism by which pyrolysis gas forms during injection molding.

This simple system configuration is divided into the three stages of plasticisation, metering, and injection, and each unit is fitted with gas traps to seclude the gases that form within each part of the process.

GIMIM can reflect the actual circumstances during molding by directly trapping and analysing the gases formed during molding. GIMIM makes it possible to measure high-molecular-weight substances that can cause mold deposits.

Since this method directly analyses gases that are formed inside the mold during filling, the company believes it yields results that are closest to real-world conditions.

In further research, Polyplastics plans to examine other problems caused by pyrolysis gas such as short shots and gas burn defects, as well as mold deposits.

SEOUL, South Korea, July 15 (Bernama-BUSINESS WIRE) -- INNORULES (CEO, Kil Kon Kim) announced that it supplied the company’s Digital Decision Manager (DDM) to the future innovation project of one of the biggest insurance companies in Japan and the first stage system has been opened.

INNORULES is a professional developer of a Business Rule Engine (BRE) solution. BRE simplifies tasks and improves the speed and efficiency of system building. Many Korean financial companies including insurers, brokerages, and banks have adopted the INNORULES’ product.

The Japanese company has been preparing for this next-generation project since 2016. It is the biggest project in 30 years with an investment of about USD 1.746 billion.

The Japanese company first met the INNORULES product when they visited Korea to benchmark Korean insurance companies and it eventually chose INNORULES after conducting the Benchmark Test.

The Japanese company adopted INNORULES’ Digital Product Manager (DPM) for their key tasks and simplified their merchandise structures such as insurance sales, insurance premium receipt, and premium settlement process.

In addition, INNORULES played a role in the core of the project by improving the performance of the client’s legacy system, which is composed of massive accumulated data. Previously, it was difficult to convert a new product swiftly since it needed to consider the impact of adding new products on the existing system.

The newly launched system utilized INNORULES’ DPM to standardize common tasks and to separate product development processes according to the characteristics of products. The Japanese company is expecting to reduce the time to develop and modify a product by one-third from almost a year. The company plans to introduce the newly adopted system to their car insurance and fire insurance system by 2025.

INNORULES is planning to expand into the South East Asian market upon this opportunity.

INNORULES’ Chief Executive Officer Kil Kon Kim said, “It is very meaningful to provide our product for the core business of the Japanese financial company that is usually very cautious. Having been recognized for our stability and technological capability for years, we receive continuous inquiries from other Japanese financial companies since a new system launched through the recent contract.”

“Based on the deals with the Japanese company and domestic companies, we are planning to expand into the major South East Asian countries including Indonesia and Malaysia that are preparing for new financial projects,” Kim added. “We expect more than 20% growth of the overseas sales this year.”
