THONEH HIGHLIGHTS BLINDNESS PREVENTION AT WORLD SIGHT DAY 2016 CONFERENCE

PETALING JAYA , Oct 17 (Bernama) --  In conjunction with World Sight Day (WSD) on 13 October, the Tun Hussein Onn National Eye Hospital (THONEH) and Rotary Districts 3300 & 3310, District Action Group on Blindness Prevention organised the World Sight Day 2016 International Conference with the theme “Stronger Together”. The World Sight Day 2016 International Conference was held in partnership with the ASEAN Association of Eye Hospitals, Petaling Jaya Lions Club and the National Council for the Blind, Malaysia, and was supported by the College of Ophthalmologists, Malaysian Society of Ophthalmology, Malaysian Association of Practising Opticians and the Association of Malaysian Optometrists.

Nearly 285 million people worldwide live with low vision and blindness, although 80% of visual impairment is avoidable. To raise attention on blindness and vision impairment, World Sight Day (WSD) is an annual day of awareness observed on every second Thursday of October, to advocate for eye health, and focus global attention on blindness and visual impairment.
