TUBE MEGA Programme Targets To Produce 12,000 Young Entrepreneurs By 2020

KUALA KRAI, March 11 (Bernama) -- SME Corporation Malaysia (SME Corp) targets to churn out 12,000 young entrepreneurs by 2020 under its Tunas Usahawan Belia Bumiputera (TUBE MEGA) programme.

Its chairman, Tan Sri Dr Mohamed Al Amin Abdul Majid, said since its inception in 2014 until last year, a total of 2,433 youths had participated in the TUBE MEGA programme to prepare themselves before venturing into entrepreneurship.

"Of the total, 2,419 young entrepreneurs have registered their businesses, thus creating 4,414 job opportunities," he told reporters after the launch of TUBE MEGA 5.0 programme at the Batu Jong National Service Training Programme (PLKN) camp here today.

The programme was officiated by International Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed.

Elaborating, Mohamed Al Amin said a total of 2,000 youths would be trained under the TUBE MEGA 5.0 programme, which began on Friday until March 30 at 15 PLKN camps nationwide.

He said SME Corp also targeted 5,000 youths including those with special needs and from the Orang Asli community to participate in the programme by 2020.

"The programme is being implemented under the National Blue Ocean Strategy initiative in collaboration with the Women, Family and Community Development Ministry and the Rural and Regional Development Ministry," he explained.

Mohamed Al Amin said youths who completed the training programme would receive a starting grant of RM15,000 to kick off their business.

The TUBE MEGA programme which targets the involvement of the low income group is introduced to complement the government's Bumiputera Wellbeing Transformation Agenda.
