Majority global workforce not keen returning to office full-time - MobileIron study

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 7 -- Over 80 per cent of global employees do not want to return to the office full-time, despite one in three employees claiming isolation from their team was productivity’s biggest hindrance during lockdown.

According to a statement, this follows the results of a new study by MobileIron, the mobile-centric security platform for the Everywhere Enterprise.

The study also found that one-third of workers (33 per cent) consider IT security to be low priority.

The current distributed remote work environment has also triggered a new threat landscape, with malicious actors increasingly targeting mobile devices with phishing attacks.

These attacks range from basic to sophisticated and are likely to succeed, with many employees unaware of how to identify and avoid a phishing attack - 43 per cent of global employees are not sure what a phishing attack is.

The study found that four distinct employee personas have emerged in the Everywhere Enterprise as a result of lockdown and mobile devices play a more critical role than ever before in ensuring productivity.

The personas are Hybrid Henry (works in financial and professional services or public sector); Mobile Molly (works on the go); Desktop Dora (works on a desktop computer from a fixed location) and, Frontline Fred (works in healthcare, logistics or retail).

“Every company needs to implement a mobile-centric security strategy that prioritises user experience and enables employees to maintain maximum productivity on any device, anywhere, without compromising personal privacy,” said MobileIron SVP Product Management, Brian Foster.

The study polled 1,200 workers across the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Netherlands, Australia and New Zealand.
