KUALA
LUMPUR, Jan 26 (Bernama) -- The dreams of a husband and wife couple to step
foot on the holy land of Makkah, became a reality after winning the grand prize
'Umrah' package' in the Thohir 2016 Campaign organised by the Majlis Agama
Islam Wilayah Persekutuan (PPZ-MAIWP) and Zakat Collection Centre, here today.
Aduni Ambar @ Ahmad, 49, winner of a package for two to perform 'Umrah' with her husband said she had participated in the campaign simply to fulfill her obligation to pay Zakat as a Muslim, without expecting the 'gift'.
"I did not expect to win the grand prize but praise to Allah, my dream of stepping foot on the holy land will become a reality," she told reporters when met here today.
Zulkifli Samsudin, 43, winner of the second prize took home a holiday package worth RM5,000 while third place winner Hasnah Mohamad, 56, received a 50" TV set worth RM3,000.
PPZ-MAIWP chief executive officer Mohd Rais Alias said the campaign which was organised for the first time to encourage more people to pay Zakat, had received overwhelming response.
"We will continue to encourage participation in the campaign by going down to the ground to meet the people and brief them of the benefits plus open information counters to interact with the Zakat officers in their respective areas," he said.
Also present was CIMB Islamic Bank chairman Datuk Dr Syed Muhammad Syed Abdul Kadir.
The campaign which encourages those paying Zakat to adopt the salary deduction payment method through online using the Thohir scheme.
From October to December last year, 2,143 people participated in the campaign.
