SolarWinds: 71 per cent Singapore´s tech pros need skills development by 2024

KUALA LUMPUR, March 27 (Bernama) -- Seventy-one per cent of technology professionals surveyed in Singapore are not ‘completely confident’ in having the necessary skills to successfully manage their IT environments over the next three to five years.

This is according to the SolarWinds IT Trends Report 2019: Skills for Tech Pros of Tomorrow which studies the state of skills and career development of technology professionals.

The report has found they are not ‘completely confident’ even though 99 per cent of them worked to develop a skill over the past 12 months.

They have prioritised skills in hybrid IT deployment monitoring and management (50 per cent), systems and infrastructure management (42 per cent) and security management (41 per cent).

In the next three to five years, the top two skills tech pros plan to develop are data science and analytics (57 per cent) and hybrid IT deployment monitoring and management (53 per cent).

But, when it comes to implement or manage specific technologies, emerging tech is a pain point.

They feel the top three technologies which are unequipped to manage with their current skill sets, are artificial intelligence (62 per cent); machine and/or deep learning (58 per cent); and, blockchain and big data analytics (43 per cent).

The surveyed tech pros also cite time and availability (34 per cent) and cost (33 per cent) as the two biggest barriers affecting their current ability to participate in IT skills training and career development programmes at the frequency they would like.
