Food, glorious food! Shonai region publishes video on ´Food Capital: Shonai´

KUALA LUMPUR, March 25 (Bernama) -- The Shonai Branch Office of Yamagata Prefectural Government has released a promotional video, titled ‘Food Capital: Shonai’.

The video aims to promote local food charms sourced in and around the Shonai region in northeastern Japan to the Japanese and the rest of the world.

Shonai is an abundant land surrounded by the ocean, mountains and rivers which bring various delicious ingredients to tickle the palate of the quintessential gourmet.

There are few rare ingredients but high in variety - over 70 types of native produce passed down throughout the generations.

Each type of produce has its own folklore and special flavour suited to Shonai, making them ‘edible cultural assets’.

There are also traditional local cuisines and creative Western cuisines using local fish and native produce in abundance, soy sauce-flavoured ramen with clear broth, with ‘dashi’ made from seafood.

Upon arrival at the Haneda Airport, the public can head to Oishii Shonai Airport in just an hour. There are four daily return flights between the airports.

Fresh ingredients are also imported to Hong Kong via special express. Japanese restaurants across Hong Kong are planning to use these ingredients in their cooking.
