KUALA LUMPUR, March 8 (Bernama) -- Santen Pharmaceutical Co Ltd, a specialised company dedicated to ophthalmology, will sponsor worldwide activities to raise public awareness of glaucoma during the week-long World Glaucoma Week (WGW), beginning March 10.
In Asia, the company will assist local glaucoma-related academic societies and medical institutions by supporting these societies in conducting PR activities, holding public lectures, and performing free screenings.
It will also cooperate with the World Glaucoma Association in running a quiz-based glaucoma awareness-raising campaign and issuing media releases in Europe, while in Japan, it will use digital signage to deliver information on ‘Light-up in Green!’ events held by the Japan Glaucoma Society to foster public awareness.
Meanwhile, for global initiative to encourage glaucoma awareness, Santen offers a glaucoma-focused mobile app simulating vision field narrowing that is easy to use for everyone, from patient to medical professional.
Among its employees in Japan, Santen held glaucoma study meetings in February and during the WGW, will conduct activities for them to share information about the disease with their family members and friends.
The company will devote further efforts to encourage all employees, including those working worldwide, to deepen their understanding of glaucoma as early detection and treatment are essential to reduce the number of glaucoma patients from losing eyesight.
The World Glaucoma Association has dedicated a week in March annually, as WGW to encourage early detection and continued treatment of glaucoma by holding various events and awareness-raising activities worldwide during the week.
